THE ENDOWMENT FOR NYC TIGERS

nyc-skyline

Help a Tiger thrive in the concrete jungle! The New York Alumni Chapter is seeking to establish a permanently endowed fund at MU.

Our Mission

New York City holds unique career opportunities for many Mizzou students, especially in the fields of business, fashion, entertainment, and journalism. As Tigers who also love NYC, we want to put those opportunities within reach by endowing a fund that provides stipends to Mizzou Students and Alumni who intern in New York City.

How You Can Help

We ask for donations — of any amount — to help us reach our initial goal of $25,000 in endowed funds. We are committed to securing this amount by 2018. Visit http://bit.ly/1i8SInA or MizzouNYC.com for more information and to donate online, or you can complete the attached form and give it to a MizzouNYC board member.

Spread the Word

Share the news of this newly founded initiative with friends, family and fellow Mizzou Tigers.

MizzouNYC Holiday Party feat. Mike Alden

MU Athletic Director Mike Alden visited MizzouNYC to join us for our holiday party. We thank the Alden’s for chatting and hanging out with us and we thank Percy’s Tavern for hosting.

We also presented our local Tiger Pride award to Gareth Clancy, a great friend of MizzouNYC. Gareth is a great advocate of our alumni chapter and we thank him for all of his help and spirit at every watch party!

We had a great football season and look forward to the Cotton Bowl and  basketball season!

MizzouNYC Football Champs

MizzouChampweb

The MizzouNYC Tigers captured their third Zog National Title on Saturday November 9th with a 28-27 victory over the previously undefeated “Balls of Fury”.  The Tigers came into the playoff as the #2 seed with a regular season record of  10-4.  In the first game against the #3 seed, MizzouNYC easily beat “50 Shades of Orange”  42-13 to set up a match-up in the championship game against the #1 seed.

Early into the game, the Fury couldn’t handle MizzouNYC’s frenetic pace, and the Tigers raced out to a 2 TD lead early in the first half.  After trading TD’s early in the second half, the tide began to change, and the athleticism of the Fury opened up.  With 1 minute left on the game clock, the Fury scored the game tying TD to lead the game into overtime.

Using the college football rules, The Fury won the toss and elected offense first.  In three plays, they scored a TD against a tired Tiger defense and quickly tacked on the extra point. MizzouNYC turned to veteran QB Sean O’Rourke to turn the team around.  “I knew this team had it in them.  We had played with the best team in the league for 46 minutes, and we were beating them…it was time for the Tigers to step up, and that is exactly what they did”, said O’Rourke.  O’Rourke connected with sophomore Lauren Hirata between two defenders in the back of the end-zone for the only TD the Tigers needed in OT.

MizzouNYC’s two team captains, Sydney Snider & Johnny Wong, in a move that will go down in history, elected for the 2 point attempt and the win.  In play that will be told in Zog-story books, QB O’Rorke took the snap, rolled right with all the receivers headed to the right corner of the end-zone.  He used incredible athletic ability to escaped a sack attempt of a furious pass-rusher, spun clockwise on his right foot, and fired a fastball to wide open Senior Nick Dame in the left corner of the end zone.  While no watched, 4 members of the team rushed the field to celebrate the winning play. Captain Sydney immediately ran to O’Rourke, bear-hugged him with the rest of the black and gold mob.

After the game, Susan Combs, former captain said , “That was the best team we’ve ever played”, which was quickly followed by Captain Johnny, “Yes and that was the best game this team has ever played”.

MizzouNYC Wins a Capstone Chapter Award at the Mizzou Alumni Leadership Weekend

MizzouNYC recently attended the Alumni Leadership Weekend at the MU campus where individuals from Mizzou alumni chapters from all over the world came to learn, share, and work towards the greater good of MAA.  Each chapter sent representatives to attend this energizing event where Mizzou Alumni chapters focused on the “One Mizzou” theme to strengthen our contributions to our alma mater.

MizzouNYC was recognized as a Capstone Chapter Award winner due to our yearlong efforts to engage alumni, which enables us to give scholarships to New York students attending MU.

It was a weekend filled with awesome speakers, great networking, and an MU tailgate and football game to top of the wonderful festivities.  Friday consisted of several sessions with speakers and chapter round table events.  We heard from Mizzou Athletics and the Mizzou Botanic Garden, as well as shared chapter successes with our fellow volunteers and discussed the upcoming Mizzou 175th Anniversary.  In the afternoon, we got the privilege to recognize Chancellor Deacon and hear from University Advancement.  That evening we attended a special reception where we recognized our volunteers of the year.

Alumni members from all over the country attended the Mizzou vs. Arkansas St. game.
