MizzouNYC’s Night at the Opera: Macbeth

MizzouNYC returns to the Met Opera for “Macbeth” — Shakespeare’s brutal tale of ambition and betrayal set to music by a grand master of Italian opera, Giuseppe Verdi. In case you don’t remember from having to read it in high school, the plot goes like so: Following a series of predictions from a band of witches — and with strong persuasion and help from his wife — the otherwise honorable Macbeth kills his way to the throne of Scotland. The kingdom then falls into bloodshed and strife as Macbeth goes on a murderous tirade and the rest of the witches’ prophesies all come true. Out of this bleak story rises some of Verdi’s best choral music.
